River Projects

The Greenway Plan for the North Delaware – eleven miles, from Pulaski Park in Port Richmond to Glen Foerd in Torresdale - will transform much of the vacant, former industrial properties along the Delaware River into a destination waterfront, bringing a new, distinctive identity to the Northeast and stimulate the economy and culture of the entire City of Philadelphia. This transformation of Philadelphia’s North Delaware Riverfront will create a new ‘front door’ to the City of Philadelphia for neighbors and visitors to enjoy.

Key to the Greenway Plan is the design and development of a continuous, 11 mile recreational trail, including several “gateway” access points to the adjacent communities. Starting in Port Richmond at the southern boundary is Pulaski Park at Allegheny and Delaware Avenues, the trail will continue northward through the neighborhoods of Bridesburg, Wissinoming, Tacony, Holmesburg and Torresdale, to Buck County’s proposed River Trail.

The gateway entrances will include parking lots, as well as improvements to “green connector” streets that will enable residents to have direct access from areas west of I-95 to the river trail.

This trail is part of the national East Coast Greenway, a designated National Millennium Trail that will extend 3,000 miles on and off-road bike trail from Maine to Florida.
