PENNYPACK EXTENSION

Construction was completed on Phase 1 of this project - a 1/2 mile extension of the existing 1/2 mile trail at Pennypack on the Delaware, a Fairmount Park facility. From its former terminus at the northern end of the park, the asphalt trail extension passes through a natural meadow, past a restored wetland to the mouth of the Pennypack Creek. A more passive wood-chip path along the river's edge is planned for a later time.

Phase 2 of the project began final design in the spring of 2009, with construction slated to begin in 2010.. This phase includes the design of a bridge across the Pennypack Creek and the continuation of the trail from the creek to Pleasant Hill Park at Linden Avenue and the Delaware River .
