PORT RICHMOND
Like many Philadelphia neighborhoods, Port Richmond has its roots from the earliest days of the colony of Pennsylvania, starting as a river estate known as "Hope Farm." With the rise of the Industrial Revolution, the value of Port Richmond's Delaware River access was quickly grasped. Port Richmond became its own community along the Delaware River, at a time when what is now the City of Philadelphia was a county of small towns and townships. But even as Port Richmond became a "neighborhood" of a larger City, it never lost its community feel and identity.

Today Port Richmond still has the feel of a small city within the City, where industrial firms anchor a community of small businesses and families, all looking to the Delaware River for work and fun.
